With over 300 charming engraved b/w illustrations in text of picturesque scenery in the vicinity of the river and the various objects of interest found on its banks (flora, fauna, bridges, buildings etc.). The authors "have traced the bountiful river from the bubbling well out of which it issues, in the meadow by Trewsbury Mead, through its whole course, gathering tributaries, and passing with them through tranquil villages, populous towns, and crowded cities ... until it reaches the most populous city of the modern and ancient world". Text contained within ruled margins. A few spots of light foxing occasionally in text. Rear hinge cracked. Front board and spine seperated from contents at front hinge. Previous owner's inscription on ffep. Pale yellow eps. Dark green cloth boards with faded gilt lettering on spine. Boards with blindstamp decoration. Top and bottom of spine and corners rubbed. Nick missing from bottom of spine. Short splits developing at top of spine at edges. Small piece of cloth scuffed at bottom of rear board. Overall condition Good+.
