Vol I should run from November 1833 to December 1834 inclusive and contain 14 issues. In this copy (as has been reported from other copies) the order of issues is as follows: No.1Nov. 1833, No. II Dec 1833, No. XVII March 1835, No. XVIII April 1835, No. XIX May 1835, No. VII May 1834, No. VIII June 1834, No. IX July 1834, No. X August 1834, No. XI Sept 1834, No. XII Oct 1834, No. XIII Nov 1834, No. XIV Dec 1834 (ie Nos III - VI for 1834 are absent and substituted by Nos XVII - XIX from Vol II). Contents include articles on Agriculture, Arboriculture, Floriculture, Horticulture, Reviews and Miscellaneous. Includes articles on The Recent Failure of the Potato Crop - "The partial failure of the potato crop of last year has given rise to various conjectures as to the cause... any failure may be considered so far a national loss, when a large portion of the population are dependent on the potato for food". Causes for the failure including insect damage, covering the pits too deeply, a disease recorded in Flanders in 1775 called "the curl" were proposed as causative agents. The disease in question was, of course, potato plight which went on to cause a nationwide famine in Ireland in the mid 1800's. Ffep loose. Tight binding but front board loosening. Brown hard paper board with cloth spine. Original spine label. Board in poor condition - all edges and corners rubbed. Top and bottom of spine rubbed. Split of about two inches at top of spine at front board. Overall condition Good-.
